Why Grind That Stump?
Old stumps are more than just eyesores. They take up valuable yard space, create tripping hazards, make lawn care difficult, and attract termites, carpenter ants, and other wood-boring pests that you definitely don’t want near your home.
Stump grinding is the fastest, most effective way to remove a stump completely. Our professional grinder reduces stumps to wood chips 6-12 inches below the soil surface—deep enough to plant grass, install landscaping, or even plant a new tree.

Stump Grinding FAQs
Common questions about stump removal
How deep does stump grinding go?
We typically grind stumps 6-12 inches below the soil surface. This is deep enough to plant grass, lay sod, or install landscaping. If you’re planning to plant a new tree in the same spot, we can grind deeper—just let us know.
What happens to the wood chips from grinding?
Stump grinding creates a pile of wood chips mixed with soil. We can haul them away, spread them as mulch elsewhere on your property, or leave them to fill the hole and settle. Most customers use them to fill the hole, then top with soil and seed.
How much does stump grinding cost in Southeast Oklahoma and Tulsa?
Pricing depends on stump diameter, root flare, and access. Small stumps (under 12 inches) typically run $75-$150. Medium stumps (12-24 inches) range from $150-$300. Large stumps and those with extensive root flare can run $300-$500+. We quote per stump and offer discounts for multiple stumps.
Can you grind a stump close to my house or fence?
Yes, we have equipment suited for tight spaces and can work close to structures, fences, and landscaping. We take precautions to prevent damage and will discuss any concerns before starting.
Do you grind the surface roots too?
We can grind visible surface roots that extend from the stump. Let us know if root removal is important—for example, if roots are lifting your driveway or interfering with lawn care. We’ll factor that into our quote.
Will the stump grow back after grinding?
Most stumps won’t regrow after grinding because we remove enough material to eliminate the active growth zone. However, some species (like sweetgum or willow) may send up sprouts from remaining roots. If this happens, the sprouts can be treated or will die off over time.
How long after tree removal should I wait to grind the stump?
You can grind immediately after tree removal—there’s no need to wait. Many customers have us grind the stump the same day we remove the tree. Bundling both services is often more economical.
Do I need to be home for stump grinding?
Not necessarily. As long as we have access to the stump and no obstacles in the way, we can complete the work while you’re away. We just need clear instructions on where to put the chips and payment arranged in advance.
Can stump grinding damage underground utilities?
We recommend calling 811 (the national utility locating service) before any stump grinding, especially for stumps near your house. They’ll mark underground utilities at no charge. We also probe carefully and watch for signs of buried lines.
What can I do with the area after stump grinding?
Once we’re done, you can fill the hole with the chips and topsoil, then seed or sod for lawn. Or use the space for landscaping, a garden bed, or a new tree. The area is ready for whatever you have in mind.
Do you remove the dirt pile left after grinding?
The chips and dirt can be left to fill the hole, spread as mulch, or hauled away—your choice. If you want a completely level area with fresh topsoil, we can arrange that as an add-on service.
Is stump grinding loud?
Stump grinders are loud, similar to a chainsaw. Most jobs take 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on stump size. We try to schedule during reasonable hours and work efficiently to minimize disruption.
